Computer and IT knowledge - things to know
- os: rocky linux 9 / like red hat linux 9
- mysql client in use: package: mysql
- database is running in a docker container .. on local tcp port 3307
- when trying to connect to the local 3307 port - the command line says:
mysql -u root -p -h 127.0.0.1 -P 3307
Enter password:
ERROR 1043 (08S01): Bad handshake
found solution:
-----------------------
1) remove mysql client: yum remove mysql
1.1) install mariadb client: yum install mariadb
1.2) try again >> works
[root@my-system]# mysql -u root -p -h 127.0.0.1 -P 3307
Enter password:

it does not work if I try to use localhost instead of 127.0.0.1 > because the local socket is beeing used:
[root@my-system]# mysql -u root -p -h localhost -P 3307
Enter password:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
