linux - securly overwrite a partition or a disk

using random numbers

e.g. overwrite harddisk /dev/sdb 1 times:
sudo shred -vn 1 /dev/sdb

e.g. overwrite just a partition /dev/sdb3 1 times:
sudo shred -vn 1 /dev/sdb3
